iPOETTS aims to promote the highest standards of care for patients undergoing prehabilitation.
iPOETTS was formed as a merger of the Perioperative Exercise Testing and Training Society (POETTS) and International Prehabilitation Society (IPS) to promote our shared belief in the importance of prehabilitation.
Prehabilitation can be defined as the process of care initiated before surgery or other treatments to promote healthy behaviours through the needs-based prescribing of exercise, nutrition, psychological and lifestyle interventions. Prehabilitation aims to empower patients to maximise resilience to surgery/treatment, facilitate recovery from surgery/treatment and improve long-term health.
iPOETTS aims to promote the highest standards of care for patients undergoing prehabilitation and to promote the professional practice of prehabilitatation and exercise testing. We aim:
- To promote and deliver training and education in prehabilitation and exercise testing including advising on education and training curricula for medical and healthcare practitioners.
- To promote the development of the workforce required to implement prehabilitation in various health care systems.
- To promote the development, conduct and dissemination of audit, quality improvement, research and innovation to further the development of prehabilitation
Prehabilitation aims to empower patients to maximise resilience to surgery/treatment.
We want to provide a forum to shared knowledge and to support the implementation of prehabilitation internationally.
We look forward to the next World Congress of Prehabilitation Medicine in London in 2024.
